St. Joshua

Its been a busy weekend for just sitting around.

My in laws took the boys to their cabin Friday so Josh and I started 'project organize your house enough to let anyone clean it.' This is going to take until I get sick again because my house is so not organized.

Ive never watched so many movies in one weekend (2). We watched the Wizard of Oz, which I hadn't seen since I was a child, and my children have never seen, and Josh hasn't seen since he fell in love with the Wicked soundtrack. It kind of has a magic of its own doesn't it? Its a good Halloween flick if your kids haven't seen it.

We also watched Holes with James. Its one of the books I read him this summer. We loved it! He remembered all the characters names, the plot, the jokes. He was a little nervous to watch the movie, asking if we could fast forward the S-A-D part. He couldn't even say the word.

Today Sam had to give a talk in primary. I was so excited because I was actually making some decisions for the talk (James has always decided his own topic, written it himself, decided on the pictures-which generally include me drawing them because there are no triathlon photos in the gospel library). Sam did write the end, what he thought were jokes. "But my favorite prophet is Samuel, because he has my same name! He was a prophet when he was a child. I want to be a prophet when I am a child." James caught wind of the discourse and decided he would be the best one to help Sam since he would be in junior primary anyway. So I think it was probably a disaster. And word has it that Sam laughed heartily at his own jokes over the pulpit.

Just to annoy the primary president a little more, James threw up in the middle of the program rehearsal. Sorry Mindy!

I guess life still goes on as I sit on my couch. Josh wakes up early with the boys, gets them breakfast, packs James lunch, bathes them, dresses them, dresses me, cleans the house, goes to work. When he gets home he feeds us, plays with the boys(its basketball right now thanks to High School Musical), gets them ready for bed, gets me ready for bed, gets the kids to bed. Then he does the dishes, some laundry, hangs things up, or puts IKEA organizers together till late at night. All the while this guy seems happy!

Last night at the end of a day just like this, he was changing the dressing on my leg. He looked up at me and smiled. "I love taking care of you."
Josh glances away from the lawnmower for a quick snapshot. Is this guy for real??

I've always said, (well, at least I say now) the best thing our kids did was to marry great parents for our grandkids! Thanks Josh, and it just points out: we love those whom we serve, and we love them more when they give us a chance to serve.

We had been married about four years when Paul became so sick. I thought I really loved him, he was my one true love of my young life! After the two years of his illness it hit me how much more I loved him because of what we went through together. "love isn't gazing into each other's eyes, it's looking forward in the same direction!"

By the way, Sam did an amazing job on his talk. So cute to see brotherly love in action. I treasure those moments when the kids actually seem to get along and enjoy it in the process.

Thanks for your continual updates. I look forward to reading them. You are my inspiration. I need to be better at spending the quality time with my children instead of always trying to get housework/other things done. Thanks for adding eternal perspective to my life.

Thank you so much for sharing these moments you are having with your family. Especially that beautiful moment where Josh looked up at you and said "I love taking care of you" - it made me want to cry because I think it encapsulates so beautifully why I think we are here on earth. I remember a professor of mine at BYU who had three children with cystic fibrosis. Some people commented to her that they thought it was inappropriate and unfair for her to keep having children when she knew they had a high chance of being born with cystic fibrosis. She talked about how she believed that we come to earth not to have perfect bodies but to learn to love others and to learn to be loved. It is a beautiful thing to love other people and equally beautiful to be loved. Thanks for demonstrating that so clearly.

I always knew that Josh was a keeper, since that story of him letting you blow your nose on his shirt (just before he left on his mission). I am still amazed with how great he is. Good job Josh!

WOW! CJ gave a talk yesterday too, it went pretty good I thought. If it makes you feel better I totally forgot about our primary program dress rehersal! So, Josh is a regular prince charming, we always knew he was! What a great guy!

Your title says it all. I'm so glad you and Josh chose each other. And I agree with Julie, your post was beautiful. I've hesitated to comment because I don't have anything profound enough to say that matches it, but I am glad you have Josh.

Josh-
It does not surprise me all the great things that your wife is saying about you. I have known you guys since so little and have SO much respect for you and your parent's.. We had a great neighborhood, with extra parents and that was awesome! It sounds like you have a close nit neighborhood like it was here. Alisa Josh does love you and you can tell just how much by how he is, The Linton kids have always been great kids and great examples. Much love to you guys and the great support your being for one another. Love you.

So, I came back on your blog to let you know that I changed my template so now you can actually see it! Thanks for being such a great friend and telling me the truth that you couldnt see it, cuz it looked normal on my computer. Anyway, when I came back on your blog, I saw the last title and I just got it! St. Joshua! HAHA! You are so cute! When can I make you dinner? OR watch your kids? What did you think about Brienholt?

I am a big fan of both the Lintons and the Johnsons and there really isn't anything like a little cancer to bring a couple together I never realized how much my husband loved me until we went through that. Thanks for sharing with us all. Suzanne

I guess after 10 years + of Alisa taking care of me I can give back a few days. Don't ask my kids about how nice I am, they may disagree, I only think that because of an almost daily bedtime ritual.

Me: James, Sam, go to bed I don't want to have to ask again.

James: (mean look) you are the meanest

Sam: (crying) you are the meanest dad ever

Me: Go to bed before I get angry (I am probably already a little angry)

James: (mean look, stomps off to bed)

Sam: (still crying) I am never playing with you again.

I love you Alisa.

Matt, I don't think you are giving him enough credit by giving him 10 points. I guess that would be points on your point scale, but even so he should get somewhere in the upper 20s. You need to word on getting your point system down matt. That's kind of an embarrassing mistake.

you are so stong I can not belive how strong you are. You never wine about all you have gone trough. If it was me I could not do this I would had given up. This makes you even stronger and stronger. I watch you with the 3 boys and never say donot touch my leg or any thing just allways happy.
Please , Please let us help Regina would run over to watch those 3 little boys day or night and I would help any time with any thing. I know it has to be hard to watch the boys during the day while your husband is at work and being in pain. I think I had 5 kids and tht was so hard but to do all you do that is not even right. Get better and stay happy

I am looking at the inside of a bottle cap that says, "What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal." The strange places you find inspiration! Josh is the real thing.

MFE. That's all I can say. I love that he can take care of you, because I know you well enough to know that you don't let anyone take care of you. Now, it's time to learn the skill of letting people help you. I love you... and that pic of Josh is hilarious!
