Universal Experience?

Its not really my style to be so dependent on other people for my everyday needs. I always hated showing my 'owies' to anyone after I had been hurt. I think I even broke my arm and hid it from my mom till nighttime when I couldn't stand it any longer.

I'm sure this part of the humbling Heavenly Father wants me to learn. I was glad to have aunt Denise here the day after surgery to dress my wounds, babysit, clean, and keep me happy.

Yesterday it was aunt Janice who offered her help. I wondered if I would need it, but realized I would have had a stressful day without her. She even said she would empty my drain (of course I didn't make her). She drove to the school because James teacher called to see if we could bring him a new pair or clothes because he had an accident. He was in denial saying his chair was just wet.

The thing is-James doesn't lie, and I don't think he has peed his pants since the day he was potty trained at 22 months. Janice reassured me that this is so normal for that age.

Should I be worried?

I guess when I was in kindergarten the principle walked in and our teacher said, 'don't talk or raise you hand for any reason while the principle is here' I remember watching her so intently, shaking my legs because I had to go so bad, and that conversation lasting forever. I was so obedient! When she came back to the table she rolled her eyes and cleaned my chair up with flimsy tissues. I told all the kids that I had fallen in the toilet.

That is a mystery about James. I'm glad Janice was there to help. I'm impressed by her willingness to clean out the drain. That proves that she really IS willing to help.

I don't know James well, but this has been a stressful few weeks for him. Just believe him and let it go. Had a similar situation w. one of my kids and it never happened again.(I'd just brought a new baby home).
Bless your aunt...and ,um send her up to my place, I have slow running drain too.
Feel better soon!

Alisa, my excuse was "I sat on the sink". I think she is right about it being normal for that age. He's a good boy!

You jogged a memory out of obscurity I didn't even know I had, Alisa, and don't feel comfortable sharing here, but will anyway. It was first grade and I remember I just barely missed making it to the bathroom. Some older kids pointed it out when I walked out of the bathroom, but I denied it (even to myself, I think). That was the longest day ever--sitting in Mrs. White's class waiting for my pants to dry.

Anyone who hasn't had "the Universal Experience" pipe up!! I should say, "Experiences" (the accident and the lying about it!)

That WAS an act of courage by Aunt Janice, anyone who knows her knows that she really hates the sight of blood.

just as James was leaving after this incident Alisa says to him, "Accidents happen James, don't worry" He gave her a hug and says thanks and says "I don't know what your talking about"

I'm not going into details, but I happen to know from a reliable source that being in denial over that type of "experience" isn't unique to James.

Well, there is one way to be sure whether he did it or not: did he have his (or a friend's) sweater tied around his waist? That was the ultimate, powerful solution to something like that for me. Ah, how wonderful it was to have that secure, comforting thing behind me, insuring that I wouldn't have to say, "I sat in a puddle on the swings." while sticking out my tongue.

....I feel like an idiot. I just figured out what kind of drain you're referring to. Yep, we had to do that with Brent's after his transplant. Piece o' cake!! But you do have to be able to stand the sight of blood!
Anybody remember when Brandon barfed up the peas on SeaHag's shoes at lunch? I think that's even better than having the "Universal Experience".

Kirst! Wow, that brings back some memories. I also used the sweater in elementary school. Anne, did you wet your pants when we had you trapped in the igloo?

Kindergarten. Gym class. Hula-hooping. "I fell in the snow at recess."

I happened to be in primary for a few minutes and got to see James helping Sam give his talk. It was the sweetest thing! I had to sit down and listen. I wish I would have had my camera!

Then Britney said James "spit" in primary on her shoe because he was sick. I hope he's ok. She wanted to bring him something to make him feel better...namely cookies. I told her if he's sick, he won't want a cookie. We'll wait for a few days to bring him some. As always...let me know if we can do anything...anything at all!

PS...we were SO excited about your latest results. We couldn't stop smiling after reading your blog. I'm feeling really blessed to be in this "ward of miracles"!

First grade - it was one of the first days of school and I really wanted to obey the teacher who said not to get out of your seat or talk without being called on. She didn't see my hand raised for me to ask if I could go to the bathroom. I can't remember my excuse. I think it had something to do with sixth grade snipers with super soakers or something like that (I was a very alliterative lad)

I couldn't get my pants unzipped during an achievement day activity, so I had to stand over the toilet and let it drip in. The old sweater trick didn't fool anyone, I am sure. Kari, I do not remember an igloo experience, but you can just email me on that one, okay?

We all have accidents now and then. I'm 30 and I'm not ashamed to admit after three kids I have had a few. I'm happy to hear your results were negative. I love you and think you are amazing. I am hear to help anytime

my universal experience was also in the first grade. I was desperately afraid of my teacher who said you could only use the bathroom at recess. So one day while we were reading in partners on the carpet, I discretely scooted my dress out from under me and well....later my teacher was rubbing the wet spot on the floor with her hand saying, "What is this?" I'm sure by the red of my face she knew that it was me.

I think most have had James's "experience". Sobering to think we get to look forward to it again when we get older!

Cutie. Even if he really did have an accident... he is under a lot of stress, poor baby. I love the picture. xoxo
